1. INTRODUCTION

The trend of globalization development has a great influence on all aspects of the economic, social, cultural, and educational life of many countries in the world, including Vietnam. In the context of strong globalization, the requirements and trends of regional and international integration of Vietnam will occur quickly and sustainably, including in the training and high-quality workers markets, the need to cooperate with foreign partners who are competent to carry out international advanced training programs becomes very urgent. The issue of quality accreditation and internationalization of training programs is a necessary prerequisite for the integration and branding of Vietnamese universities in the regional and international educational environment.

In order to meet the demand for training health workers in the new stage, a project was developed by the Hue University of Medicine and Pharmacy (HueUMP) and Hue University made a decision to set up Faculty of International Education under supervision of Hue UMP, being pursuant to the decision No. 306/QĐ-ĐHH-TCNS dated Feb 27th 2012, aiming at building up and managing the international training programs of the university and primarily focusing on a number of key majors.

In the period of 2014-2019, Faculty of International Education has built and successfully implemented many international programs such as FutureDocs Abroad Program, in cooperation with National Leadership Academies and American Universities with the number of 150-200 students/year; Clinical and community internship program of Work the World Organization, the UK with over 250 students/year; Korea World Friends Program of the Korean University Council for Social Services (KUCSS), the exchange programs for health workers, mainly nursing personnel with Japanese and German partners. Every year, the number of international students is about 400-500 students from many continents and universities around the world.

In addition, the Faculty has also coordinated with the Department of Postgraduate Training to develop, approve and manage joint training programs with foreign countries such as Master in Biomedical Engineering, Master of Nursing Science, and Ph.D in Biomedical Sciences.
Faculty of International Education prioritizes the development of joint training programs, advanced programs in the field of medicine and health sciences, training courses according to the social needs of the world and Vietnam, the exchange programs of experts and students, contributing to the successful implementation of the strategic orientations for building and developing the University of Medicine and Pharmacy, Hue University according to Resolution No. 54 of the Party Central Committee.

2. SOME MAIN ACTIVITIES OF FACULTY OF INTERNATIONAL EDUCATION

1. Advising and assisting the Rector on international training activities; coordinating with units in monitoring, supporting and managing training programs and international training courses; seeking, developing and implementing new joint training programs at the undergraduate and postgraduate level with prestigious universities/institutes and educational institutions in the world;

2. Deploying and promoting effectively international student exchange programs; actively building new programs with rich, scientific and useful content;

3. Actively seeking and advising the Principal in joint training or self-development of programs for training according to social needs (labor export, training programs for international students...);

4. Managing effectively the study and research of international students at the university and its facilities, ensuring foreign security regulations;

5. Actively seeking, introducing, sharing education programs (including scholarships and self-funded programs to facilitate the staff/students’ approaches to foreign advanced education programs, improving foreign language proficiency, professional knowledge, how to organize and manage training according to international standards, gradually integrating with the region and the world;

6. Fostering and building up a contingent of personnel, raising professional qualifications, proceeding to professionalization and specialization, meeting the requirements and tasks of international training activities in the new period;

7. Building and completing the processes and regulations of the system of documents in international training in accordance with the Regulation on organization and operation of the University, the Law amending and supplementing a number of articles of the Law on Higher Education and following the direction of autonomy development of the University; strengthening IT application and building supportive software in the management of international training activities.

3. ORGANIZATIONAL STRUCTURE AND PERSONNEL

Faculty of International Education currently has 10 staff; including 1 dean, 1 vice-dean, 2 full-time staff and 6 specialists as part-time positions.
