1. INTRODUCTION

Department of Anesthesiology -  Intensive Care & Emergency Medicine established on 07^th, February 2020 from the unification of anesthesiology - intensive care and emergency medicine departments. Our mission is to advance the Hue University of Medicine and Pharmacy by providing the highest quality training programs, the highest quality patient care, and by advancing the field of anesthesiology, Intensive Care and Emergency through our educational and research efforts.

2. ORGANIZATION AND STRUCTURE

The department currently has 14 lecturers, including 01 Associate Professor, 3 PhD and 10 lecturers.

3. EDUCATION AND TRAINING

3.1. Education

3.1.1. Undergraduate training

The department of Anesthesiology -  Intensive Care & Emergency Medicine offers theoretical and clinical courses in anesthesia, emergency and critical care for the 5^th year students majoring in general practitioners, odonto-stomatology, traditional medicine in 6-year full-time program, the 3^rd year general medicine students in 4-year full-time program. Our department offers theoretical and clinical courses on anesthesia and resuscitation for part-time as well as full-time anesthesiology technicians, general nursing and midwife nursing students.

3.1.2. Graduate training

Graduate students in anesthesiology, emergency and intensive care profession are trained under the unified program, including:

• Specialist level 1 on anesthesia, emergency and critical care
• Master, resident and specialist level II on anesthesia and critical care
• Anesthesia-resuscitation course as selective module for master, resident and specialist level II in surgery, obstetrics and gynecology
• Emergency-critical care course as selective module for resident and specialist level II in internal medicine.

3.2. Training

03 - 05 Continuing Medical Educations were organized each year with 100 - 150 participants per course.

The department has composed and published Anesthesiology and critical care textbooks for general medicine students, theoretical textbooks on Anesthesia Vol 1, 2 & 3, Technical textbooks Vol 1 & 2 for nursing students, Anesthesia in Oral and Maxillofacial surgery textbook for odonto-stomatology students, Emergency and critical care textbooks for specialist level I.

4. RESEARCH

Lecturers of the department have been participating and conducting 01 projects at Thua Thien Hue province level, 08 scientific research projects at Hue University level, 19 scientific research projects at Hue University of Medicine and Pharmacy level. All projects focusing on improving the quality of anesthesia and resuscitation, postoperative care such as application of low-flow anesthesia, prevention and treatment of hypotension after spinal anesthesia, analgesia and antiemetic postoperative, laryngeal mask application and ultrasound-guided regional anesthesia. Numerous research fields in emergency and critical care such as application noninvasive mechanical ventilation on exacerbation chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, diagnosis and treatment of Candida spp infections, percutaneous tracheostomy technique. The department also organized and presented at scientific conference of Vietnam society of anesthesiologist as well as anesthesiology international conference.

5. INTERNATIONAL COOPERATION

The department has collaborated and worked with organizations including HVO, Mayo Clinic, Samaritan in USA. The department is expanding cooperation with international organizations such as USA (Stanford, Mayo Clinic), Korea (Inha University, Chonbuk University), Italy (Sassari University, AISPO), France (Rennes University) to organize workshops and CME specialized in anesthesiology, emergency and critical care.
