1. INTRODUCTION

The Department of Psychiatry (DP), Hue University of Medicine and Pharmacy was established in March 1978. Continuing the tradition established during 60 years of the development of Hue University of Medicine and Pharmacy, Psychiatric Department is actively working to enhance its performance to become one of the leading units in Vietnam in the field of Psychotherapy, Mental Health research and treatment. The Mental Health and Psychotherapy out-patients clinic was established on July 1st, 2019 in Hue University Hospital of Medicine and Pharmacy. Psychiatric Department offers training programs and carries out research in the field of psychiatry, aiming to enhance mental health for Vietnamese people, especially the Central and the Highland of Vietnam.

3. EDUCATION AND TRAINING

DP’s size has been increased for years. Its mission is to conduct research, teach psychiatry to medical and nursing students, teach doctors in training, and promote skillful in clinical practice. Within more than 40 years of development, the Department of Psychiatry has trained mostly medical, traditional medical, preventive medical and nursing students as well as post-graduate trainees (Psychiatric specialist level 1 and 2). Besides psychiatric post - graduate trainees, we also have training courses on psychiatry for post - graduate learners in specialties of Internal Medicine, Public Health, Emergency Medicine and Neurology.

We also have CME courses on psychiatry and psychology for doctors, nurses and clinical psychologists who work in Psychiatric Hospitals in whole country.

We work in close collaboration with Mental Health Department of Hue Central Hospital, Hue Psychiatric Hospital, National Psychiatric Hospital No. 2, Bien Hoa National Institute of Forensic Psychiatry…

5. INTERNATIONAL COOPERATION

DP orients towards development in international relations in the areas of research and training.

From 2005 to 2015, DP has had cooperative relations with the Department of Psychosomatic Medicine and Psychotherapy – Faculty of Medicine – Freiburg University – Germany.

From 2015 to now: DP has had collaborations with psychiatrists, psychologists and mental health staff from Australia, Germany, United States …

Every year, numerous foreign students from the United States, UK, Finland, Australia, Netherlands, and other countries come to learn and do research at the Department of Psychiatry.
