1. INTRODUCTION

Department of Parasitology was established in 1979 in order to teach doctor students as the main mission. Along with the development of Hue University of Medicine and Pharmacy, the department has contributed to academic education for graduate and undergraduate students from different specialties. Furthermore, we also build up and manage some academic research in various aspects, participating in the international training programs of the University.

2. ORGANIZATION AND STRUCTURE

Department of Parasitology currently has 09 staff; including 4 lecturers and 5 technicians.

3. EDUCATION AND TRAINING

Graduated training: The Department participates in teaching theory lesson and laboratory training of Parasitology for the regular student including MD General Medicine, MD Preventive Medicine, MD Traditional Medicine, MD Dentistry, Pharmacy, BSc Public Health, BSc Nursing, BSc Medical Technician

Postgraduate training: Master of Biomedical Science, Doctor of Biomedical Science

Diagnosis, treatment and prevention of parasitic infectious diseases: We have a parasitology laboratory at Hue University of Medicine and Pharmacy Hospital, a tertiary, 700-bed hospital.

The Department also takes part in the Training for students of Future Docs Abroad Program from the National Leadership Academies USA, setting up short courses and continuing medical education in Parasitology for foreigners or domestic students.

4. RESEARCH AND PUBLICATION

Some academic research has been carried out in the Department including Protozology, Helminthtology, and Mycology.

  • Protozology: epidemiology, the symbiont of bacteria and protozoa, the susceptibility of drugs and herbal to Trichomonas vaginalis
  • Helminthtology: molecular biology, serology, diagnosis methods
  • Mycology: molecular biology, pathogenesis, the susceptibility of antifungal drugs to Candida and Aspergillus

5. INTERNATIONAL COOPERATION

  • Training for Master of Biomedical Student in Co-operating with Sassari – University
  • Participating exchanged science program: Training at Karlstad University, Sweeden
  • Visiting international university in Germany, Italy, Estonia, Sweeden
  • Organize and join the annually Parasitology Conference; exchange knowledge with many experts in the world, Healthcare education for community
