1. INTRODUCTION

With the development of the University, the Department of Physiology was established in 1957. Over a period of 60 years, the Department has contributed to training for about 20.000 doctors, pharmacists, bachelors and more than 10.000 post-graduate students. Besides training, we has constantly participated in scientific research to improve the quality of staffs and teaching quality in the University.

2. ORGANIZATION AND STRUCTURE

We currently has 11 staffs including:

• 06 lecturers: 01 Associate Professor specialized in Physiology, 02 PhD specialized in Life Science and Biotechnology and 01 PhD specialized in Immuno-Oncology.
• 03 medical technicians: 3 Masters specialized in Life Science and Biotechnology and 01 medical cleaner.

3. EDUCATION AND TRAINING

3.1. Undergraduate training program

• Department of Physiology provide the basic medical knowledge for undergraduate student. We teach physiology for 09 majors (Medicine, Dentistry, Preventive Medicine, Traditional Medicine, Pharmacist, Nursing, Medical Laboratory Technology, Medical Imaging Technique and Public Health).
• Bridge Program include 07 major (Medicine, Preventive Medicine, Traditional Medicine, Pharmacology, Nursing, Medical Laboratory Technology, Medical Imaging Technology)
• Implement an active teaching method in the direction of the innovative program from Harvard University for general medical and Odonto-Stomatology students.
• Update and compiling textbook for general medical students and other objects.

3.2. Graduate training program

• Teach Physiology for Postgraduate students specialized in Internal Medicine- Pediatric and Biomedical Science in Hue and other regions.
• Develop and participate in the Doctor of Biomedical Science Program in Hue University of Medicine and Pharmacy in 2019.

4. RESEARCH AND PUBLICATION

The department has participated in many scientific researches focusing on Life science-Biotechnology, Immuno-Oncology, immunology and bioinformatics.

- Implement 91 scientific researches including 5 ministerial-level projects, 45 university-level projects, 16 projects for undergraduate students, 23 projects for postgraduate students and 2 innovation initiatives which won awards from the University.

- Many research papers have been published on Practical Medicine journals, Internal Medicine journals, Vietnam Journal of Endocrinology-Diabetes, Journal of Medicine and Pharmacy, and Vietnam Journal of Physiology.

- Supervise young lecturers and students in doing scientific research and won VIFOTEC prize….

- With regarding to International publication, we have some scientific articles in prestigious international journals such as Elsevier, Journal of infection in developing countries, Journal of Clinical Oncology, Hematological Oncology.

2016: PhD. Nguyen Hai Quy Tram

• Evaluation of early markers of nephropathy in patients with types 2 diabetes mellitus.
• Plasma PP13 and urinary GAGs/PGs as early markers of pre-eclampsia.  
• Identification of differentially expressed proteins in atherosclerotic patients with type 2 diabetes. 

2019: PhD. Hoang Thi Mai Thanh

• Progression of Disease Within 24 Months in Follicular Lymphoma Is Associated With Reduced Intratumoral Immune Infiltration.
• EBV+CNS lymphoma have a distinctive tumour microenvironment and genetic profile, which is amenable to combination 3rd party EBV-specific CTL and Ibrutinib therapy.

2019 - 2020: PhD. Nguyen Thi Hieu Dung             

• Herbal Medicine for Slowing Aging and Aging-Associated Conditions: Efficacy, Mechanisms, and Safety. Current vascular pharmacology (2019)
• Herbal Medicine for Cardiovascular diseases: Efficacy, Mechanisms, and Safety, Frontiers in Pharmacology (2020)

- Some scientific works have been reported in Youth Conference:

• Development of allergens extraction method in fresh Tomato’s peel and pulp that cause allergy in human (2018,  MS. Phan Thi Tuyet Nhung)
• Developing a cost-effective technology for genetic diagnostic testing of epilepsy patients.  (2019, MS. Ngo Thi Tuyet Dieu)

5. INTERNATIONAL COOPERATION

The Department always enhances international cooperation in teaching equipment and methods.

Some staffs in the Department have been trained overseas to improve the capacity of research and  study of  Life Science and Biotechnology, the University of Sassari, Italy and specialized in Immuno-Oncology, the University of Queensland

The Department also participated in training for exchange students of FutureDocs program in 2019.
